Barum Rally 2021 – Preview

After a one-year break caused by a Covid-19 Barum rally is back. Legendary tarmac event celebrating 50 years already. We lost already one of the favorites Alexey Lukyanuk after his crash during the test. So who is favorite then? And from whom we are not expecting a lot this year? Let’s see in our analyses.

Favorites:

Jan Kopecky
Kopecky has won the last 5 years of legendary Barum and he is clearly the biggest favorite. What will be this year different? Well, he is not part of the official factory team. And he is not part of any international program of the factory team. Years before he was competing on an international level basically every month. This year it is a little bit different. He still competes in the Czech and Hungarian championships but that is something we can not compare with WRC2.

Vaclav Pech
Change of car before 2020 season obviously helped Pech very much. He is able to challenge even Kopecky in a Czech championship fight. He is also the last winner of the Barum rally before the winning streak of Kopecky. The biggest question mark is over the reliability of his Focus WRC.

Outsiders:

Jari Huttunen
Jari is a very fast driver but he changed team and will drive on MRF Tyres. He is replacing Breen. He was not the most competitive on MRF tires and according to the Ypres rally, we can say that the driver is no problem. MRF tires are still quite new and probably it will take some time to see competitive results from them.
